Food safe to eat after a leak of R12

I had a small refrigerator in my pantry area. When the line to the freezer
ruptured, the R12 all leaked out. I have read that you say that it is not
harmful to breath. Here is my question; Since all my dry stock was stored (in
packaging)around the unit, is the food still safe to eat? Thank you greatly
for your kind help, not looking forward to have to throwing all this food
away.

No problem. R12 is completely non toxic, if it was there would have been a
lot of persons poisoned since 1930 when it was invented. Many systems leak
inside the cabinets for years until it is finally realized there is
something wrong. The only concern about it is for environmental problems
with the ozone layer, and that's still just a theory.

Your input is extremely helpful!

For example, let us know that your particular refrigerator model had a burnt out freezer fan motor one month after the warrantee expired, then everyone knows that a fan failure on that model is a distinct possibility.
