Ice maker pipe leaks

I just purchased a house which includes a Whirlpool ETNK18
Refrigerator/Freezer. I am not sure of the age, but on the back lower right
side there is a small copper pipe which I can only assume carries the water
into the freezer ice maker, because it has been leaking water onto the floor
whenever the water is turned onto the fridge. I am not sure of where it is
leaking from, but is there a connection I can somehow tighten? Or is this a
job for a professional?

You need to get right down there and into it to find exactly where the leak
is coming from while someone else operates the dispenser lever. Once you
find the specific place of the leak it could just be a loose fitting, or
perhaps a small section of the nylon tube needs to be removed and a coupling
installed. These fittings and couplings are available at most hardware
stores as the nylon lines and fittings used for ice makers and water
dispensers on refrigerators are the same as what is used for humidifier
lines and other applications as well.

Sometimes you may need to lie the fridge on its side if the leak is up
underneath. In this case unplug the unit remove all the food and lie it down
so the suction line, the largest one entering the compressor, is facing
downward.

Your input is extremely helpful!

Hundreds of people visit these pages daily looking for information about household refrigeration equipment. Dissatisfied with a particular model or company? Solved a particular problem? Let us know. Even the smallest detail can help so many people.

For example, let us know that your particular refrigerator model had a burnt out freezer fan motor one month after the warrantee expired, then everyone knows that a fan failure on that model is a distinct possibility.
