Remove ice maker, refrigerator stops working. Defrost timer in the ice maker.

Kenmore 106.7690580 with the 626517(now the 628384R) icemaker. If
you remove the icemaker, the fridge ceases to operate!! Light comes on, but
no cooling. Whirlpool designed it that way. I wasted time troubleshooting
the control and defrost timer. They also now sell just a defrost timer to
plug in if you don't want the icemaker. Icemaker has been inoperable for
over 5 years, but fridge still worked fine. Don't take it out though,
because it shuts down the fridge. You may want to add to your book/website.
I did not see it in there. Thanks, Pat

Thanks for the heads up on this. We don't have this model in Canada where
I'm from. What were those engineers thinking? Why put the defrost timer in
the ice maker, doesn't make much sense to me. Perhaps they thought they
could save by not having two timing devices on the same unit.
