Frequently Asked Questions About Domestic Refrigerator Repair:

Coldspot getting colder and colder, worth the repair?

Hi, I have a Sears Coldspot Frostless Refrigerator-Freezer. The owner's manual says12/68 on it, so I believe it is 32 years old. I bought it with a house in New Hampshire 4 months ago. I have been trying to adjust the temperature since then. At this point it is freezing everything in the refrigerated section. There is a dial in the Refrigerator that says "colder" with an arrow. I have been turning it the other way. But it seems to be colder now than it was a month ago. Is there a thermostat that could be going bad? Is a unit this old worth saving? Thanks for your help

In my opinion these refrigerators were one of the best ones ever built, they had compressors on them that almost never wore out. So, providing the problem isn't too serious, I would say they are worth the repair. To me it sounds like your cold control has become insensitive which would require replacement. The part is still available in Canada where I live, as I installed one just a few weeks ago.
