Frequently Asked Questions About Domestic Refrigerator Repair:

The Crosley Shelvadoor and what happens with brand names

I love your web site and wish you were in Oregon - I was pulled in by a search on "noisy refrigerators". Wish I'd seen it before getting rid of my old one. By the way, do you know anything about Crosley refrigerators? (I think they're connected to Woods and they make an all-refrigerator.)

Thanks for your comment. Crosley? Hmmm, I haven't heard of any new models by that name. The only thing I know about the brand name Crosley though, is that it is a historical name very popular in the 40's and 50's.

The Crosley was the first refrigerator to have shelves in the door, putting you in between the food storage area when you opened it. It was called the Crosley Shelvadoor. Other manufacturers soon copied this feature.

We don't have any new brands called Crosley up where I'm from (Canada), but I've noticed a lot of manufacturers will buy a defunct name with a good reputation cheaply and use it for their own gain. Sometimes it's a rip-off. For example, the Canadian brand White-Westinghouse, which is in my opinion not a good design, bought the good name Frigidaire a few years back and sell the exact same refrigerator with the Frigidaire name on it for $100 dollars more than their other brand.

Woods is a good name brand though, if that's the parent company.
